“The course of true love never did run smooth,” says Lysander, and so it is for four young romantics who run from the world that seeks to keep them apart and into the night woods where they are ensnared in the surreal realm of the Fairies. This is no flowery haven but the playground of the quarreling Titania and Oberon and his fairy subject Puck who ensures that his master’s love potion throws all who enter into a dizzying dream where he can beguile and bend them. Caught in this dreamy web are the hapless ham actors from town who think to secretly rehearse their craft by night in the woods but flee from their hilarious leader Nick Bottom who becomes the toy of the fairy prankster Puck.
As the sun sets, step into the spellbound woods and discover that the desires and dreams of young indulged lovers are no less passionate than those of the “hempen homespun” Nick Bottom and awaken to a world of hearts made kinder by the power of love and imagination.

The play is set in a suburban motel room in the present and is comprised of five separate subplots which take place simultaneously in the one room.
Unfolding before us are the stories of ten ordinary people who find themselves at the wayside of their lives, wondering which turn to take. Their difficulties and conflicts are commonplace, but it is in their presentation, playing off each problem, in tandem and in counterpoint, which makes the ordinary become
extraordinary.
The Wayside Motor Inn has many comic moments but it also qualifies as a dramatic piece as each of the conflicts Gurney’s characters confront builds to a dramatic conclusion in the second act.
Directed by Carlotta Rutledge
A young woman with no power finds that fate has conspired against her as she is forced into a life of servitude by a cruel stepmother and her two daughters, Gabrielle and Charlotte. Meanwhile young Prince Christopher is turning 21 and is seeking a wife. Cinderella, in her rags, sadly dreams of attending the ball and is amazed when her fairy Godmother helps her to attain a temporary transformation into an elegant young lady, carriage and all. At the ball, she meets the Prince and they fall in love. With the stroke of midnight, Cinderella’s luck runs out and she must flee. After a few plot twists, these two star-crossed lovers eventually reunite. With a lush Rodgers & Hammerstein musical score and new dialogue that crackles with sweetness and freshness by Douglas Carter Beane, this production will have you tapping your toes and humming.
