“The Dining Room” by A.R. Gurney takes place in the dining room of a well-to-do household of the 1980’s, once a centre of family life and now neglected, where the action is comprised of a series of interrelated scenes. Some are touching, some funny, some mournful and each one related to an overall theme of the demise of white, upper middle class American culture. Each vignette introduces a new set of characters and events, with the actors changing roles, personalities and ages.

Six actors portray a wide variety of characters from children to grandparents, teenagers to hired staff, in a series of sketches connected to the dining room. Definitely an actors’ play.
